August 26th 2021 saw the release of my first cookbook Nomnomnom: Eat yourself happy in 50 recipes without borders in the Netherlands. It was featured in and well received in most Dutch and Belgian print and online media, included in several end of year lists and was nominated for both the Gouden Kookboek (Golden Cookbook) and the Cookbook of the Year.
Nomnomnom was published by esteemed Dutch cookbook publishing house Fontaine Uitgevers, that publishes Nigel Slater and Fergus Henderson, among many other heroes. I was responsible for all the photography and writing. The book’s design was the created by Sarah Meers of Studio Morf. If you are based in the Netherlands, you can order Nomnomnom here.
What’s NOMNOMNOM all about?
Because I still find it pretty hard to sell myself, below is the blurb my publisher wrote to promote Nomnomnom:
In over 50 recipes, Dorothy Porker shows you that food can be fun and delicious. With its original style and sparkling photography, Nomnomnom is not just a cookbook, but also a true must-have. The recipes are easy to prepare for anyone, and include many vegan and vegetarian variations.
Life is hard enough, according to Dorothy, food should be delicious and fun. Her dishes are original, full of flavor and usually ready in under 30 minutes. Her sparkling, funky photography is surprising and often humorous. There are recipes with and without meat, for big, small and sweet appetites as well as recipes for basics that Dorothy encourages you to get ready-made if that’s easier for you. Each recipe is a party on your plate and, according to Dorothy, suitable for any time of day. How about a gochujang bacon cheese melt, summery Cobb salad with red fruit and blue cheese or an After Eight Oreo pie? But also quick pasta sauces in endless variations and the dish where it all began: lasagna.
The writing and provocative imagery of Dorothy Porker, also known as Vette Sletten (Fat Sluts), gained popularity quickly not just with food lovers in general but among food professionals such as Hiske Versprille, Ronald Giphart and Meneer Wateetons among others. With a refreshing look and feel for composition and color, Dorothy Porker has made Nomnomnom a cookbook that will tickle your taste buds.‘
There were also a bunch of quotes by Dutch food people, but odds are you don’t know them so I won’t add them here.
English edition
There are currently no plans for an English edition of the book.
